Expectations Write, edit, and revise articles effectively for a variety of purposes and audiences Shoot photos Procure advertising Design layout Construct cartoons/graphics Computer manipulate graphic images Critically review The Falcon Flyer and other newsprint media Use AP style correctly and consistently (there will be quizzes) Consistently improve, work in and outside of class, meet deadlines Produce The Falcon Flyer and TheFalconFlyer.com according to the production schedule and continually improve

Grading Grades will be based on student’s position as a staff member, leadership, writing, meeting deadlines, effort in class, improvement and a portfolio of your contributions to The Falcon Flyer and Thefalconflyer.com 60% : Performance/work: Writing/editing, portfolio, notebook, layout design, advertising. 40%: Leadership/employability: – Be prompt – You and your work must be on time. – Be polite and helpful to others/team player – All people learn, work and exist in their own unique way; respect that. – Come to class prepared and always submit your best quality work every time – Come to class with the right materials and attitude. Be willing to listen to others’ ideas and be flexible. – Be positive – Recognize that everything we do in class is to help students learn and to publish The Falcon Flyer and TheFalconFlyer.com. We have a united purpose and succeed and/or fail together. – Be a participant -- Expect to work and learn in a variety of ways every day. Editors will help evaluate other staff members. I will conference with students at the end of each quarter where we will discuss your portfolio to determine the grade you have earned and where improvements are needed. Grades may not be equitable because staff members have differing responsibilities.

Competitions/Conventions Fall National Convention: JEA Washington DC in November. WJEA in spring (state competition)-required for editors, recommended for those seeking a board position next school year. National competitions and conferences are optional and do not affect a student’s grade.
