All 3,700 words of The OPD are presented with sound and visual images. Students can hear and learn to read, say, and spell any word they choose to explore. Vocabulary can be easily searched through a pictorial glossary, helping students develop reference skills. Activities such as Conversation, Reading, "Job Talk," Dictation, Role Play, and Writing provide vocabulary practice in speaking, reading, writing, and listening. OPD Description

OPD Description (cont.) A built-in word processor encourages students to write about any Dictionary topic and print out their work. Games offer motivating, easily customized reinforcement activities. Flashcard Maker enables students to practice on-screen or print out picture/word cards based on their own word lists. Randomly-generated tests for each topic page enable targeted testing and multiple retests, facilitating pre- and post-testing. Summary and detailed reports allow students and teachers to monitor progress.

II. Books Leisure reading (fiction / non fiction titles) (check out the book poster on lab wall!) Books on tape (variety of titles) (sign them out with the Instructional Assistants) English language books in the file cabinets (sign them out with the Instructional Assistants) NOTE: To use lab books, you must leave your student ID card and use the books in the lab only – they cannot be taken home.

Citizenship Practice Students must register for Citizenship class Lab materials are available for these students: –a. Cassette tapes –b. Books –c. Videos Sample Citizenship tests are given in class. See Mrs. Dulce Noor for more information!

A few reminders! Scan your ID card when you enter the Lab. If you have any questions, ask an Instructional Assistant for help. Handle the headsets with care – Pull the microphone down gently. Return the headsets to the top of the monitor when finished. Do not shut off the computer! Close all programs before leaving. Leave the desktop as you found it. Check CPU for your floppy disks or CDs. Scan out when leaving the Lab. And remember: NO FOOD OR DRINKS ALLOWED!
