Both were 18 years old and had recently graduated from high school, both had good grades, and both were Eagle Scouts. One was called the next day and interviewed for the job, the other was not. Not knowing any of the applicants, the assistant-manager relied on the manager’s notes that appeared on the top of two of those applications: “Well dressed, good handshake” and “Nice smile, confident.” These were the two who got the interviews.
