Public Health in Kansas As of March 2011: – 97 of 105 counties experienced shortages of primary care doctors – 99 had a shortage of dentists – 101 had a shortage of mental health professionals. Public health agencies in Kansas tend to be understaffed and underfunded. –Kansas: 63 public health workers per 100,000 population –National: 158 per 100,000 population

Public Health Funding in Kansas Nationwide, most public health funding has increased slightly, but Kansas’s state and federal funding has decreased. Yet the responsibilities of Kansas public health workers are just as great as those of workers with many more resources. Federal Public Health Funding

Supporting Public Health in Kansas Less money. More to do. Fewer workers. How can the system continue to preserve the health of the public? Simple answer: help the system and workforce find resources available, and show them how to use those resources best. Partnerships and collaborations are necessary. These must be supported by leadership at all levels.
