Writing We will utilize the curriculum Write From the Beginning and Beyond – Thinking Map framework K-12 Characteristics and goals: personal narrative, imaginative narrative, informative, expository (how and why), persuasive, response to literature. Journal Work: Students are given prompts and are also given a free choice. 2 nd Graders concentrate on an organized paragraph. with a minimum of 8 well structured sentences.

Spelling The intention of the CISD spelling plan is to expose learners to specific rules and patterns that are aligned with the expectations of grade level TEKS. GOAL: To empower learners to develop mastery of spelling rules and patterns rather than simply memorizing a list of spelling words. Evidence of mastery will be in learner’s authentic writing. List will be differentiated based on a pre-test, but all words will have the same spelling pattern that aligns to the grade level spelling standards.
12
Handwriting 2 nd grade will work on correct formation of printed letters using the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum. We will introduce cursive strokes toward the end of the school year. Website for Parents: hwtears.com/click

It is the student’s responsibility to make sure they show you any paperwork that goes home and then bring it back the next day.

Our 3 Diamond Rules: Care for everyone and everything. Show respect. Use good manners at all times. Practicing these each day creates a safe environment conducive for learning and working together. Throughout the year, weekly class meetings and monthly guidance lessons allow us to model and apply problem solving strategies.

Each 9 weeks, a homework calendar will be in your child’s red folder. The expectation is that your learner will read 15-20 minutes each day. Also, they are expected to complete one of the math activities that will be listed at the bottom of the calendar. Each 9 weeks, a homework calendar will be in your child’s red folder. Each week I nominate a 2D Maverick of the Week. That learner’s name goes into the MKB MOW boot along with one 2 nd grader from each second grade class. On Fridays, Mrs. Mitchell draws a name from each grade level boot and pictures are taken for the newspaper. Each week I nominate a 2D Maverick of the Week. Birthdays are very special days in 2D, but not a party. We write and share a personal narrative about our friend. IF your child wants to bring treats, it needs to be simple and easy. We eat birthday treats during snack time–9:00-9:10 a.m.. Please keep in mind there are common allergies such as nuts and peanut butter.
