1. Ms. Paris’ 2 nd Grade Class Welcome, students!

2. Welcome to Second Grade!  I will introduce you to second grade and to our classroom.  If you have any questions during my presentation, please raise your hand and wait to be called on.

3. My Goals  To give you the academic and social skills you need to progress to third grade.  To provide a supportive and fun classroom environment.  To help you make new friends and discover new interests.

4. Class Subjects  The subjects we cover during second grade are:  Reading and Spelling  Math  Science  Social studies  Language Arts

6. Language Arts  Parts of Speech  Writing Paragraphs

7. Math  Adding and Subtracting and Geometry  Perimeter and Area

8. Science  Living Things Growing  Life Cycles  Matter

9. Social Studies  Economics  Map Skills

10. Spelling  Vowels  Consanants

11. Classroom Community  Our classroom is a community. In our community, we have rules to help us get along with each other.  Our class rules are:  Be respectful and responsible.  Be organized and follow directions.  Be on time.  Be prepared.

12. Homework  I will assign about 45 minutes of homework every night. Some days that may include 20 minutes of reading.  If you need extra time to work on your homework, you can go to homework club (at the table outside) during recess to work on it.

13. Tardiness  School starts at 8:30 A.M.  If you aren’t in the classroom by the time the tardy bell rings, please check in at the school office before coming to class.  If you are tardy four times, the school will contact your parents.

14. Field Trips  We have a few fun field trips planned for this year!  We will attend two plays for reading.  We will visit the local park for science.  We will go to a police station to study their jobs for social studies.
