6. RUE’s Birthday Policy  We discourage the handing out of birthday invitations in the classroom.  Edible treats may not be sent in due to food allergies!  Alternative possibilities include pencils, stickers, goody bags, etc.

25. Homework  Read for 15 minutes every night  Students are expected to read at least 500 minutes a quarter. Please record minutes read and sign the homework chart every night! At the end of the quarter, student who read 500 or more minutes can earn a prize.  Prizes will vary, but may include: extra recess, pencils, stickers, notepads, etc.  Sight Words  Every Wednesday beginning in mid-September the Sight Word Folder will come home  The folder includes 300 words. The highlighted words are the words your child already knows. Please practice reading the words that are not highlighted. Once all the words are highlighted please practice writing and spelling the words. The Sight Word Folder contains a list of activities to help with reading, writing, and spelling the words.  Word Study  Word study lists will be added to the homework calendar in mid- September. Students should practice reading, writing, and spelling these words throughout the week.
