Paraprofessionals are: Teacher Assistants Instructional Aides Special Education Aide Parents, Family members Cross-age tutors, buddies Student Teachers

Teacher Assistants/Instructional Aides Have a schedule May work with more than one teacher Confidentiality and Professionalism Supportive of program and teacher Run Copies, Instruct small groups, prepare materials, and assist the teacher

Support Providers/Special Education Assigned to one or more students in your class Are not there to run copies, prepare materials Should not be the teacher for their assigned student

Parent/Family Volunteers Are not required to attend Need clear directions and expectations Respect teachers authority Confidentiality and Professionalism Need your respect and gratitude

Cross-Age Tutors and Buddies Need specific activities or assignments Need to respect the students in your class Your students need to respect them Confidentiality Appreciation Great motivator for both students

Student Teachers (like you) Start as observers, prepare materials Gradually take over instruction Gradually take over management of the classroom and discipline Attend staff meetings Work with staff to plan instruction Limited communication with parents
