10 1.1 YOUTH EXCHANGES groups of youngsters from different countries meet and get to know each other and their cultures they choose a theme of common interest they share opinions around it, do intercultural activities, games and discussion groups each group has got a youth leader

11 1.2 YOUTH INITIATIVES a group of youngsters chooses and develop a theme relevant to themselves and their community local, regional and national level or networking of similar projects with other groups from different countries a coach can be involved

12 1.3 YOUTH DEMOCRACY PROJECTS groups of youngsters (min 16 people) participate in the mechanisms of representative democracy of their community local and at international level at least 2 countries with 2 local partners per country

13 2 EUROPEAN VOLUNTARY SERVICE a volunteer (individually or in group) is sent by an organisation to another in a different country they are involved in a non-profit-making activity a mentor is foreseen

14 EUROPEAN CITIZENSHIP PRORITIES PARTICIPATION OF YOUNG PEOPLE CULTURAL DIVERSITY INCLUSION OF YOUNG PEOPLE WITH FEWER OPPORTUNITIES

15 PROJECTS SHOULD HAVE A STRONG EUROPEAN DIMENSION IN ORDER TO MAKE PARTICIPANTS REFLECT ON THE EUROPEAN VALUES EUROPEAN CITIZENSHIP

16 PARTICIPATION SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AS A PEDAGOGICAL PRINCIPLE, IN ORDER TO ENCOURAGE YOUNG PEOPLE TO BE ACTIVE CITIZENS PARTICIPATION OF YOUNG PEOPLE

17 INTERCULTURAL LEARNING (ICL) WORKING METHODS SHOULD BE USED, IN ORDER TO DEVELOP CULTURAL AWARENESS AND RESPECT CULTURAL DIVERSITY

18 INCLUSION OF YOUNG PEOPLE WITH FEWER OPPORTUNITIES YOUNGSTERS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS (FROM A LESS-PRIVILEGED BACKGROUND, OR WITH DISABILITIES)

19 NON-FORMAL LEARNING IMPORTANT FEATURES VISIBILITY VALORISATION AND DISSEMINATION OF RESULTS

20 ACTIVITIES SHOULD PROVIDE A PARTICIPATIVE AND LEARNER-CENTERED APPROACH, CLOSE TO YOUNG PEOPLE'S NEEDS, ASPIRATIONS AND INTERESTS. YIA PROJECTS CAN GIVE YOUNG PEOPLE IMPORTANT OPPORTUNITIES TO ACQUIRE SKILLS AND COMPETENCES, COMPLEMENTARY TO THE FORMAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING SYSTEM. Non-formal learning “there is no learning without emotions”

21 Visibility ACTIVITIES SHOULD PROVIDE A CLEAR ADDED PROMOTIONAL VALUE FOR THE YIA PROGRAMME. THE OBJECTIVE IS TO ENSURE THE PARTICIPANTS’ AWARENESS, BUT ALSO TO SHOW TO THE WIDER PUBLIC THAT THE EU IS CREATING LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE.

22 Valorisation and dissemination of results ACTIVITIES SHOULD PRODUCE LONG-LASTING EFFECTS AND BE BETTER KNOWN AND ACTIVELY USED, SO TO MAKE AS MORE PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE BENEFIT FROM IT. THIS CAN HAPPEN THROUGH THE DISSEMINATION AND EXPLOITATION OF THE RESULTS, WHICH CAN OPTIMIZE THEIR VALUE AND STRENGTHEN THEIR IMPACT.
