4 In DESTINY, you can search by TITLE, AUTHOR, KEYWORD, SUBJECT, or SERIES Second… Use the TITLE, AUTHOR, or KEYWORD search buttons if you know the title of the book- Harry Potter, or the name of the author-Judy Blume, or the subject you want to find-Armed Forces

5 Next… Check the availability of your search. This page tells you there are 6 selections with HARRY POTTER in the title.

6 By clicking on the title, you can get more information on the book. Write down the call number of the book you want to check out. Now…

7 What is a call number? Call numbers are the numbers and letters on the spine of a book. They help you find a book on the shelf. This system of classification is called the Dewey Decimal System. We use something similar for other sections in the library. 345.2 Cal 920 Was REF 456 F Rio

9 Do fiction books follow the Dewey system also?

10 No, fiction books don’t follow the Dewey. To find a fiction book, you need to know the author’s last name. The first letter of the call number is always “F” for “Fiction,” followed by the first three letters of the author’s last name. 12 4. How do I find a book on cats? Look under “C” for cats Look up “cats” in Destiny, write down the call number, and look for it on the shelves 5. Where are the books on planets? Look under “Mars” 6. Where do I find spooky stories? Just look for Stephen King books Look at the Dewey poster for “Science” and you’ll see they’re in the 500s section of the library Go to Destiny and type in “Suspense” and click “enter” TURN IN YOUR ANSWERS TO YOUR TEACHER!!!!!
