3 Advancement Requirements Must pass core subject coursework with a 70%. Pass STAAR Reading and Math Summer School is ONLY available for those students who do not pass STAAR.

4 Graduation Requirements & Credits Requirements are those classes that Willis ISD and the State of Texas need you to take in order to graduate from High School Credits are earned upon completion and passing of a required course Each semester =.5 credit One full year = 1.0 credits

5 Classification of Students Class – Freshman – Sophomore – Junior – Senior Credits – 0 – 5.5 – 6 – 11.5 – 12 – 17.5 – 18 or more

6 English Language Arts 4 credits – English I – English II – English III – English IV – English I & II for speakers of Other Languages may sub for Eng. I & II

7 Math Requirements 4 Credits – Algebra I – Geometry – Algebra II – 4 th year Math class

8 Science Requirements 4 Credits – Biology – Chemistry – Physics – 4 th Year Science

9 Social Studies Requirements 4 credits –W–World Geography –W–World History –U–U.S. History –U–U.S. Government (.5 credit) –E–Economics (.5 credit)

10 Elective Requirements Foreign language – 2 credits of the same language Technology Applications – 1.0 credit Fine Arts – 1.0 credit

11 Elective Requirements Health Education –.5 credit OR – 1.0 credit Health Science Technology Speech/Communication Applications –.5 credit Physical Education – 1.0 credit Additional Components – 4.0 credits

12 Course Selection Course Selection sheets will be handed out during your 6 th period If you have any changes, please mark off the class you want to drop and write the class you want to add All sheets need to be returned signed to your 6 th period teacher by May 10. You will get a final verification sheet with your end of the year report card.

13 Important If you do not turn in your course selection sheet signed and do not list an alternate course you will not be able to make any schedule changes. Schedules will be handed out at registration

16 What 8 th Graders want to know What is the schedule? When is lunch? How big is the High School? Where are classes located? What are the requirements for Drivers Ed.? Do I have to get a locker? Can I carry my back pack? Can we go out to eat during lunch? Is there a study hall period in the middle of the day? Where do I go if I have questions about a career, collage, or scholarships? What is FISH Camp?

19 FAQ about Dress Code Can I have colored hair? – Unnatural hair color is not allowed Can I wear a cap in school – No, they will be taken up by administration Can I wear a nose ring? – Nose rings/studs, lip rings/studs, or any other body-piercing jewelry other than earings are not allowed

20 Dress Code Continued Is the dress code different from Middle School? – No, same rules apply Any clothing and/or jewelry that is distracting, as deemed by the campus administrator, will be prohibited.
