4. Valentine’s Day Story St. Valentine was a Christian martyr. During the reign of Roman emperor Claudius II, St. Valentine was arrested and imprisoned for performing marriage ceremonies against the emperor’s wishes. As the story goes, during his imprisonment, his jailer asked him to teach his young, blind daughter Julia. They grew very close as he taught her lessons in history and arithmetic. St. Valentine prayed that God would take away her blindness, and suddenly she could see! Right before St. Valentine was put to death, he wrote a final note to Julia, signing it “From your Valentine”. Valentine’s Day is now celebrated every February 14 th !
