3) Poverty (large slums) exists side by side with enormous wealth (grand homes, luxury apartments, world class restaurants & the stylish urban area, Zona Rosa, in the center of the city 4)Air pollution, (a broad valley ringed by mountains trapping pollutants) is among the worst in the world

Central Mexico 1) Stretches northwest of Mexico City & across the Mexican Plateau 2) Home of Guadalajara (country’ 2 nd largest city), 3) Agricultural center with many fertile valleys & commercial farms producing cash crops (crops grown for sale in a market)

Gulf Lowlands 1) This is the Gulf of Mexico region between Campeche & Tampico, including Veracruz, a leading Mexican seaport 2) Also includes the mountains to the south & the plains of the Yucatan Peninsula 3) Rich deposits of oil & natural gas are the key to the region’s economy

Southern Mexico 1) Includes the mountainous area south of Mexico City & the plains of the Yucatan Peninsula 2) This is Mexico’s poorest region 3) This is Mexico’s most traditional region with nearly half of this area’s population being Mexican Indians
