37 Treaty of Versailles Treaty: A formal agreement between 2or more countries The Treaty of Versailles was signed in France. This treaty officially ended the war and spelled out the punishment for Germany.

38 Treaty of Versailles Germany agreed to the following: Signing the “Guilt Clause” This means that Germany admitted being guilty of starting the war Giving back land and colonial possessions During the war, Germany conquered land previously belonging to France and Belgium. According to the treaty, Germany had to give it all back

39 Treaty of Versailles Paying war reparations to France and Belgium This literally meant paying cash to these countries for the damage done by Germany during the war. The amount is estimated to be in the hundreds of billions of dollars.

40 Treaty of Versailles Severe reduction of its military 100,000 man army-no more 6 ships No Air Force Allies allowed to keep soldiers on the Rhine river for the next 15 years
