When we want to keep pests out. mosquitoes; flies; wasps; When we want to catch or keep things in. fish; chicken; livestock We use a net, screen or fence They work well unless torn ripped, or cut.

Mending the Nets He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who were also in the boat mending the nets. Mk 1:19 katartizo – to render fit, sound, complete; to mend, repair; complete, fit out; equip; put in order. They worked to “mend” “repair” “render fit, sound and complete” and “put in order”

Other Nets Our skin keeping bacteria and germs out of our body. Our conscience screens out moral and spiritual defilement, but can be torn, seared or defiled. 1Tim 1:3-5; 3:9; 4:1-2; God’s Word screens out lies, false doctrine, or immorality. 2Tim 3:15-16; 1Th 5:21-22 Those with itching ears rip it. 2Tim 4:1-4

God’s Natural Barrier To the pure all things are pure: but to them that are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but both their mind and conscience are defiled. Titus 1:15 The pure have all screens intact! But every enticement creating lust that we give in to will rip the screen. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. Jas 1:14-15

God’s Natural Barrier To the pure all things are pure: to the defiled nothing is pure; both mind & conscience defiled. Titus 1:15 In those areas where we are still pure, there is little or no enticement or temptation. We are pure in these things. We have never opened this door or ripped this screen. Each time we allow enticement or temptation to create sin we rip our screen and create defilement in our mind and conscience. We never see these sins the same again!

James and John sought to ‘mend’ ‘repair’ ‘render fit, sound, complete’ and ‘put in order’ their nets: In exactly the same we have the power of God to ‘mend’ ‘repair’ ‘render fit, sound, complete’ and ‘put in order’ (katartizo) our heart, soul, mind & conscience. Mending the Nets

Uses of katartizo in Scripture Can we see how mend’ ‘repair’ ‘render fit, sound, complete’ and ‘put in order’ fits these also? That there be no divisions among you; but (that) ye be perfected together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 1 Cor 1:10 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfected; be comforted; be of the same mind; live in peace: and the God of love and peace shall be with you 2Cor 13:11

Uses of katartizo in Scripture Can we see how mend’ ‘repair’ ‘render fit, sound, complete’ and ‘put in order’ fits these also? Brethren, even if a man be overtaken in any trespass, ye who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; looking to thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Gal 6:1 praying exceedingly that we may see your face, and may perfect that which is lacking in your faith? 1Th 3:10

Uses of katartizo in Scripture Can we see how mend’ ‘repair’ ‘render fit, sound, complete’ and ‘put in order’ fits these also? Now the God of peace, who brought again from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep with the blood of an eternal covenant, (even) our Lord Jesus, 21 make you perfect in every good thing to do his will, working in us that which is well- pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; Heb 13:20-21

Mending our Nets The gospel can “mend” “repair” “render fit, sound and complete” and “put in order.” perfected together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 1 Cor 1:10 perfected 2Cor 13:11 Restore others in a spirit of gentleness; Gal 6:1 God can perfect what’s lacking in our faith 1Th 3:10 God can make us perfect. Heb 13:20-21 God shall himself perfect, establish, strengthen us. 1 Pet 5:10

Mending our Nets God through Jesus and the Holy Spirit made all the provisions for us to be healed. rips and tears were fatal. Rom 7:7-11; Eph 2:1-3 God made us alive by grace through faith Eph 2:4-5 Jesus gave us gifts - Eph 4:11 apostles and prophets (inspired revelation) evangelists, shepherds (elders) & teachers These gifts will perfect the saints for the work of ministering, unto the building up of the body 4:12 When working properly we begin to mend.

Mending our Nets Partaking of divine nature. II Pet 1:3-11 Put off old man/put on new. Eph 4:22-24 If we have learned to lie 4:25 If we struggle with anger 4:26 If we have learned to steal 4:28 If we use corrupt speech 4:29 If bitterness, wrath anger clamor railing :31 Brethren, we have to be honest. If these don’t tempt we are whole, but if they are an issue they hinder our work.

Mending our Nets The first step to mending, repairing and putting things in order is to obey the gospel. Faith comes by hearing Rom 10:17 Without faith we cannot please God Heb 11:6 Unless we believe Jesus we will die in sin. Jn 8:24 Unless we repent we will perish; Lk 13:3 God demands all men everywhere to repent Acts 19:31 We must confess him before men. Mt 10:32 He that believes and is baptized will be saved. Mk 16:16 Repent and be baptized for remission of sins. Acts 2:38 We were buried with him in baptism. Rom 6:3-4 Have you obeyed the gospel yet? Eternity is awaiting us.

Mending our Nets The second step to mending, repairing and putting things in order is to trust and obey. Be faithful till death. Rev 2:10 Repent of each and every sin. II Cor 7:7-11 Confess our sins to God. I Jn 1:9 Give diligence to present ourselves approved unto God II Tim 2:15
