2 How Needs Are Met Volunteers help clean up property that was destroyed in the 2011 tornado in Joplin.

3 Volunteering Part of being an active citizen is stepping forward and offering to do something to help one’s neighbors, community, city, country, or state. A volunteer is someone who works for no pay. Volunteers choose to help others even though they do not have to.volunteer

4 Reasons to Volunteer There are many reasons why people volunteer. Sometimes money is not available to pay for something. People also volunteer because they have free time. Some people believe in a cause and want to help that cause. Some people just want to do whatever they can to help their neighbors and community. Some volunteers collect money for a charity. A charity is a group that helps people in need.

5 Helping Others in Need Other volunteers coach a team. Some choose to work in soup kitchens or collect clothing for the homeless. Some bring meals to people who can not leave their homes. Others help clean up parks or pack meals for hungry children.
