The committee of road vehicles n Since 1947, ISO TC22 develops international standards on road vehicles: –500 published standards (a landmark) –250 work items in progress n ISO TC22 is a part of the International standardisation organisation

The committee of road vehicles n ISO TC22 open to every ISO member –ISO has more than 130 countries members n In 2001, 19 Participating countries (voting rights), 44 Observer countries n All continents of the world are represented n Meeting places reflect membership

Organisation of TC22 n Work is divided between working groups (85) by subcommittees (22) according to the TC orientation. n Standards drafters come from the vehicle and parts industry, the governmental departments, the academia, the NGOs concerned, etc…

Process within TC22 n Common position is reached in each country by the national member : BNA (France), Fakra (Germany), SAE (USA), BSI (UK), JSAE (Japan), Cuna (Italy) etc… n Each Participating country casts its vote. Decisions are taken by a 3/4 majority. n WD -> CD -> DIS -> FDIS

WP29 and TC22 n TC22 has working liaisons with many organisations, including WP29 n WP29 and TC22 scope similar n TC22 has worked and will work for WP29, whenever necessary. Requests always get a reply. n 88 ISO standards in the WP29 Regulations

WP29 and TC22 n TC22 ’s standards can help regulators: –Several successive majority votes –Democratic process (ISO guidelines) –Of 19 P-countries, 16 attend/have attended WP29; 12 have signed 1958-Agreement; 9 have signed 1998-Agreement –Rules for external presentation of drafts n P-members: Belgium, Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Korea (South), Netherlands, Philippins, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, UK, USA
