3 The Why Keeps a record of what is taking place Allows a check on the relative positions of players Prevents illegal substitutions Ensures the sanctions scale is kept to Keeps a track of Libero movement Provides post match feedback to teams The rules require it

15 Before Each Player Serves Check that it is the correct server If it isn’t wait until the service has taken place then use the sound device to alert the 2 nd Referee say “that is the wrong server” and be prepared to prove it.

17 To Clarify If the serving team wins the rally just cross off the next point. If the receiving team wins the rally there are three actions to take: –Update the Service Rounds box of the team that lost the rally with their current score (known as closing the box). –Award a point to the team that won the rally. –Place a onto the small number of the Service rounds box for the next server (know as opening the box). 18 Substitution Process Substitute(s) appears in the substitution zone carrying the numbered paddle of the player(s) they are to replace Press buzzer, blow whistle, sound horn etc. Check sub(s) valid Record as described on next slide Show Ready (both hands palms towards the 2 nd Referee) If invalid then use sound device again and explain why the substitution isn’t legal Be prepared to record a sanction

25 Other Scorer Responsibilities The scorer times technical time outs, usually 1 minute. The scorer times the time between the sets (3 minutes) and notifies the 2 nd Referee after 2 minutes 30 seconds. Do NOT let anyone (except the 1 st Referee) write on your score sheet. The captains & coaches have no right to do so!
