3  In linguistics, distinguish between ◦ Standard dialect (either accentless or considered an acceptable accented variant) ◦ Vernacular/non-standard dialects (what we often mean by “dialect” colloquially) The Beatles: speakers of “Scouse” English, or a dialect centered in Liverpool
