An island in the eastern part of the North Atlantic directly west of the United Kingdom, on the continental shelf of Europe. A temperate climate since it is close to the Atlantic Ocean. Mostly cloudy and rainy though some sunny spells. Very cold in the winter and nice sunny summers. Computers, chemicals and live animals and animal products are Irelands top 3 Exports. Grains, petroleum products and machinery are the top 3 Imports. English, Polish and Irish are the three main languages spoken. The local dialect is said to be a mixture of the language of Shakespeare and the Irish of the Gaelic earls. Most people in Ireland live up to about 80 years old. Roman Catholicism is the main religion. Irish is the largest ethnic group.

Dublin the Capital is home to the Dublin Writers Museum, James Joyce Museum and many other interesting areas. Kilkenny has Kilkenny Arts Festival, Hot Air Balloon Festival and the Rhythm and Roots Festival. Irish Stew is one of Irelands most famous dishes and has been recognized as the national dish for at least two centuries.

The people of Ireland expected a good potato crop in 1845. The weather had appeared to be favorable and in many senses, the farming community of Ireland expected a bumper harvest. However, when it came to digging up the potatoes, all they got was a black gooey mess. In November 2009, heavy rain caused record flooding in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The whole Shannon watershed was affected along with border lying areas and the Lough Neagh-Bann catchement. In many areas this was the most serious flood event ever recorded.

Miscellaneous James Hoban designed the original White House in Washington. The highest mountain in Ireland is the Killarney A popular Irish Proverb; “they come for a day and stay for a week”, meaning someone who overstays their welcome. Some houses have thatched roofs which means made of straw and such things. The famous Riverdance of Ireland is a famous Folk dance. Irish Pubs are found through out Ireland and house many of Irelands famous bands and has sports live on the big screens.
