Broadband Network History Telus fibre ROW through territory Negotiated CCA gateway Network BC CCG for wireless network Network build contract with regional vendor

Broadband Network Project Wireless access point towers in three locations Subscriber units at 80 homes Agreement with local ISP to manage the gateway SLIB manages the subscribers and maintains the network

What we learned Access to technical skill Network build vendor – training Local ISP – gateway setup Community technician – BC Hydro microwave skills Fit network jobs into existing people Network support and maintenance Billing and administration Part time positions Cant afford to hire new people

What we learned Service to outside users helps pay the bills BC Hydro camps Need strong community champion to sell the idea Hard to justify financially Benefits to small, remote communities
