Bellwork 9/2 Describe the Endosymbiotic Theory in your own wordsEndosymbiotic Theory
2
Cell Organelles and their Functions *Double hamburger and glue your homework to the top right of page 10 in your journal
3
Cells Cells are the basic unit of all living things. IF IT IS ALIVE, IT HAS CELLS! Cell Theory: – All organisms are made up of one or more cells – The cell is the basic unit of all organisms – all cells come from cells
4
Two Types of Cells PROKARYOTE EUKARYOTE
5
A Cell Membrane B Cytoplasm C Mitochondria D Nucleus E Endoplasmic Reticulum F Golgi Apparatus G Ribosomes H Vacuoles I Cell Walls J Flagella
6
Cell Membrane The cell membrane holds the cell together and allows nutrients into the cell. A
7
Cytoplasm the watery gel inside a cell. It holds the ORGANelles. B
8
Mitochondria ORGANelle that produces energy for the cell. C
9
Nucleus The nucleus controls the cell. It contains the cell’s DNA. D
10
Endoplasmic Reticulum A network of membranes throughout the cytoplasm of the cell. It helps to move materials around the cell. E
11
Golgi apparatus Responsible for sorting, packaging, and shipping the proteins produced in the ER. F
12
Ribosomes help in the synthesis of proteins. Some ribosomes are found in the cytoplasm, but most are attached to the endoplasmic reticulum. G
13
Vacuoles Vacuoles are spaces in the cytoplasm where food and chemicals are stored H
14
Cell Wall Cell Walls are NEVER in animal cells They make the cell strong and rigid I
15
Flagella Can be found in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells Used for movement J
16
Card Sort with table After I check that they are correct, go back and add your analogy word to each organelle listed Example: nucleus = person in charge
