1 The Cell Structure and Function

2 Maintaining a Healthy Cell In order to stay healthy and active a cell must: - obtain food and energy In order to stay healthy and active a cell must: - obtain food and energy - convert the energy to a usable form - make and regulate organelles - carry out chemical reactions - eliminate waste - reproduce - keep a record of how to build cell components

3 Cell Types Prokaryotes – the smallest type of cells with simple structure. - They have NO nucleus (an enclosed central region within a cell that contains DNA/RNA). Their genetic information is spread throughout the cell. 4 Cell Types Eukaryotes - larger cells with complex structures. - all plant and animal cells are eukaryotic. - these cells DO have a true nucleus Eukaryotes - larger cells with complex structures. - all plant and animal cells are eukaryotic. - these cells DO have a true nucleus
