CASE STUDY OF CHELSEA Chelsea van Rooyen from Cape Town, had a dream of owning her own clothing brand. At the age of 12, the young lady,with the help of her father, now has her own clothing brand. From her pocket money she started saving up for material and other resources that she needed to start making her designs. And with R2000,00 she managed to create and sell her first designs to her close friends and relatives. They all loved the product and the demand grew through word – of mouth marketing. Chelseas business has grown rapidly and she now has an agent in the Eastern cape and two in Cape Town who assist her in the marketing of her clothes. She also plans to expand her market to Gauteng and KwaZulu – Natal.

EXERCISE Do you think Chelsea is an entrepreneur? Explain your answer Comment on her business idea and where she got the idea from. Was she innovative? How do you think a teenager who is still at school can start,run and manage a real business like this? How can a good business idea benefit a community?
