John 17 The Great High Priestly Prayer of our Lord!

John 17:2 Doctrine of Eternal Life! Part 3

John 3:36, “He that believes on the Son has eternal life, but he who does not believe on the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

Eternal Life is for all of mankind, not just the Jew. Acts 13:14-48; Rom 2:11

Eternal Life is identified with your regeneration and is received in the new birth, John 3:3-6; Titus 3:5.

Experientially, it is the manifestation of your new life in Christ as you walk in God’s will and plan on a daily basis.

This occurs when you are willing to die to everything in your life, including your rights, virtues, and religion, and become willing to receive into yourself a new life that you have never before experienced.

This new life exhibits itself in your conscious repentance and through your unconscious holiness.

Are you seeking only for the evidence of God’s kingdom, or are you actually recognizing His absolute sovereign control in your life?

The new birth gives you a new power of vision by which you begin to discern God’s control.

John 3:3, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Mat 5:3, “Blessed are the poor in spirit (those who recognize they need a savior), for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Mat 5:8, “Blessed are the pure in heart (filled with Bible Doctrine), for they shall see God.”

Mat 5:10, “Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness (spiritually mature believers), for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

All three members of the Trinity are said to impart Eternal Life to the believer.

1. Eternal life is given by the work of the Holy Spirit at the moment of faith in Christ. John 3:3-6; Titus 3:5

2. The Father is said to beget His spiritual children. James 1:17-18

3. The life which is bestowed upon the believer is identified with the life which is in Christ. John 5:21; 2 Cor 5:17; 1 John 5:12

As a result Jesus Christ is the bestower of Eternal Life to the believer. John 10:28; 17:2

The impartation of eternal life is embodied in three principal figures in the Scripture.

1. Regeneration is described first as a new birth, being “born of God”, John 1:13, or “born again”, John 3:3.

2. The new life in Christ is described as a spiritual resurrection. Not only is the believer “raised together with Christ”, Col. 3:1, but is “alive from the dead”, Rom 6:13.

John 5:25, “An hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live.”

3. The bestowal of new life is compared to the act of creation. Eph 2:10

Eph 2:10, “Created in Christ Jesus for good works.”
