Pillars – Are achievable, measurable and promote sustainable strategies – Leverage existing nation, state and local efforts Local elected officials are asked to commit to the 5 Goals

Let’s Move! Cities, Towns & Counties Focus: engage and educate local elected officials on the problem of childhood obesity and actions they can take to address childhood obesity Five goals developed to better unify activities of cities, towns and counties doing this work Encourage collaborations

LMCTC Goals Goal I: Start Early, Start Smart Goal II: MyPlate, My Place Goal III: Smart Servings for Students Goal IV: Model Food Services Goal V: Active Kids at Play

Goal I: Start Early, Start Smart To provide children with a healthier start, local elected officials commit to helping early care and education providers incorporate best practices for nutrition, physical activity and screen time into their programs

Goal II: MyPlate, My Place To empower parents and caregivers, local elected officials commit to prominently displaying MyPlate in all municipally- or county-owned or operated venues where food is served.

Goal III: Smart Servings for Students To provide healthy food in schools, local elected officials commit to increasing participation in the School Breakfast Program and National School Lunch Program.

Goal IV: Model Food Service To improve access to healthy, affordable foods, local elected officials commit to implementing healthy and sustainable food service guidelines that are aligned with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans in all municipally- or county-owned and operated venues that serve food.

Goal V: Active Kids at Play To increase physical activity, local elected officials commit to mapping local playspaces, completing a needs assessment, developing an action plan, and implementing a minimum of three proven policies, programs or initiatives aimed at increasing access to play.

Medal Awarding Opportunity to earn 5 gold medals! Survey info provided by sites tracks progress –Medals are awarded monthly by NLC –Local elected officials receive certificates to display in city hall or wherever they choose –Provide news release template –Use –The website reflects medals awarded Survey informationMeets benchmarksMedals awarded

Earn a gold, silver, and bronze medal for each goal Goal V: Active Kids at Play – to increase physical activity, local elected officials commit to mapping local playspaces, completing a needs assessment, developing an action plan, and launching a minimum of three proven policies, programs or initiatives aimed at increasing access to play. Gold: All playspaces are mapped, a needs assessment is completed, an action plan is developed, and a minimum of three proven policies, programs or initiatives from the action plan are launched and continue to increase access to play. Silver: All playspaces are mapped, a needs assessment is completed, an action plan is developed. Bronze: All playspaces are mapped.

Use the website to see if your city, town, or county is signed up. – If no, ask your local elected official to sign up – If yes, contact your local elected official to offer assistance in support of the 5 goals

Be a Part of Let’s Move! Cities Towns & Counties Once a local elected official signs up on www.HealthyCommunitiesHealthyFuture.org they will receive their city,- town-, or county-specific survey via email www.HealthyCommunitiesHealthyFuture.org The survey is a link that can be accessed at any time to update information The survey answers are used by NLC to award the medals, as well as develop appropriate technical assistance based on needs
