» Homework packet and quiz due on Friday. » Happy Wednesday » Added our traits to the bulletin board. » 88% class goal » Better writers!

» Language arts with Ms. Lusk » Making blood in stations » What’s the purpose?

» We need to have an academic style of writing. ˃Do you think that President Obama talks to his family the same way in which he gives a speech to the nation? » Code switching: ˃Being able to talk one way with some people, and another way with another group.

» Only two tenses are marked on the verb ˃Present: I.E “he sings” ˃Past: I.E. “he sang” » This is unusual as other languages have upwards of 30 different tenses.

» Instead of different verb tenses, we have auxiliary tenses. » Auxiliary tenses are used with the verb to convey completed actions (perfect forms), actions in progress (progressive form), and actions that are completed by some specific time or event (Perfect progressive forms). ˃Simple present: They walk ˃Present Perfect: they have walked ˃Simple Past: They walked ˃Past Perfect: They had walked ˃Future: They will walk ˃Future Perfect: They will have walked

» Use simple present tense for the following purposes: » To make a generalization ˃We turn the clocks ahead every April. » To indicate an activity that happens habitually or repeatedly ˃She works at JMMS. ˃They take breaks in science class to give their brains a break. » To discuss literature and the arts even if the work was written in the past or the author is dead. ˃In Zami, Audre Lordge describes how a librarian introduces her to the joys of readings.

» The present perfect consists of a past participle (the third principal part) with "has" or "have." It designates action which began in the past but which continues into the present or the effect of which still continues. » 1. Betty taught for ten years. (simple past) » 2. Betty has taught for ten years. (present perfect)

» We’re going to be making blood. » This blood is not to be eaten. » I also didn’t spend a ton of money on supplies. You’ll need to follow EXACTLY what it says on the sheet to use. »

» Bring a sheet of paper with you. » There are things that you’ll need to write down in the stations. » Please be cognizant of the colors of the people at your table.

» In a paragraph, explain how the figurative types of blood are a lot like the literal parts of blood.
