2. Introduction Bullying comes in all shapes and sizes. The most unsuspecting person can be a bully. For teachers, it’s important to know that even the sweet child can be a bully. The victims of bullying don’t usually speak up, so it’s also important to observe your students for warning signs. Teaching students to have responsible behavior is key. In the following slides you’ll be presented with conflict/resolution ideas, teacher preventative plans, and resources for your students.

5. Conflict Mediation Strategies Follow any school wide bullying program or procedures put in place by the school. Identify any hot spots for bully activity and notify the school. Bring students together to address the issue. Talk to the student creating the problem, looking for the why behind the problem, and then working towards resolution of the problem.

6. Teacher’s Response to Bullying: 1. Take immediate action 2. Relate incident and repeat what was observed. Let student know what they did was unacceptable. 3. Immediately impose consequence and reiterate classroom/school expectations of how to treat others 4. If behavior does not improve, document with a bullying report and contact parents for meeting 5. Recruit “peer volunteers” to support bully recovery 6. 8. Response to Cyber-bullying Understand that Cyber-bullying is more difficult to deal with than person to person bullying. Recognize the signs of a victim of cyber-bullying, such as an upset or withdrawn student. Encourage students to report any cyber-bullying, and speak up online when they see it happening. Encourage the victim not to erase evidence of cyber-bullying so it can be addressed. 17. Conclusion Bullying has become a very hot topic. With advanced technology and social media, bullying has been taken to a new and more destructive level. Teens already have enough to deal with. Adding personal ridicule and hazing to a students daily life can become more than some kids can handle. It’s clear that students must be educated on how destructive their own devices can be.
