LAUNCH IT! 1st Lieutenant Joseph Haggberg Test Engineer, USAF

SPLIT INTO ROCKET PROGRAM GROUPS Program Manager Records important information (hint: the responsibilities of your team and the next few slides might be important to write down!) Is in charge of materials request For each new launch, must explain to Launch Authority what is being done differently using data from scientist Has FINAL say Scientist (can have 2) Draws the rocket design and must give it to the Program Manager for materials request Decides how much and what materials are needed and angles for launch Must keep an accurate log for each launch result (distance traveled, how much air was used for launch, anything that will help for your next launch) Engineer Assembles the rocket materials Launches the rocket Provide insight on how to improve the system

WHY WOULD WE WANT TO EVEN GO TO SPACE?

SOME COOL STUFF FROM GOING TO SPACE Scratch Resistant Lenses Memory Foam Cordless Vacuum Freeze Drying Water Purification Solar Cells LEDs Firefighter gear Neutralizing landmines

SO HOW DO WE GET THERE?

WITH ROCKETS!

Gravity Direction of Travel Orbit

ROCKET DESIGN Nosecone Body Fins Fins – Stabilize flight. Guides the path or trajectory. Body – Holds fuel. Balances the weight. Nosecone – Aerodynamic guide through the air. Typically holds the cargo or payload.
