In this loopback call, we can cycle the UE's output power by turning the Downlink DPDCH on and off. This causes a change of TFC (Transport Format Combination) in the uplink which essentially causes the uplink power to vary according to the change in data rate. In the case where Downlink DPDCH is turned completely on and off, DTX (where DPCH is turned off) will occur in the uplink. It is suggested in the CDG specifications that a 40% on/60% off pattern is typical for a voice call. This is what we plan to implement (although the % will be programmable).
