Pre-assessment
10
Opening Activity 3x3 Puzzle Outcome The participants will activate prior knowledge of the Standards for Mathematical Practice.
11
3x3 Puzzle Task Arrange puzzle pieces into a 3x3 array by matching appropriate statements. Note: There are distractors.
12
Web Activity Outcome The participants will develop a better understanding of the Standards for Mathematical Practice and of the Literacy Standards.
13
Overview Literacy Standards In PreK-5, the Literacy Standards are embedded in the Content Standards. In grades 6-12, the Literacy Standards are contained in separate documents. Are divided into 4 clusters. Describe increasingly sophisticated behaviors by grade or grade band. Will be measured in the ELA assessments.
14
Overview Reading Standards for Literacy Clusters Key Ideas and Details Craft and Structure Integration of Knowledge and Ideas Range of Reading Level of Text Complexity
15
Core Activity-Web Step 1 Write the assigned Standard for Mathematical Practice in the center. Math Practice #1: Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. Step 2 Add statements that summarize the student behaviors described in the practice. Step 3 Connect to behaviors described in the Literacy Standards Integration of Knowledge and Ideas #7 : Integrate and evaluate multiple sources of information Craft and Structure #6: Analyze the author’s purpose Analyze givens Evaluate progress Understand different approaches Make connections between information presented in different forms
16
Gallery Walk Task At each poster, review the: Standard for Mathematical Practice (SMP) Student behaviors described in the SMP Connections to the Literacy Standards

Writing Standards for Literacy Clusters Text Types and Purposes Production and Distribution of Writing Research to Build and Present Knowledge Range of Writing
18
Summary Literacy Standards Are divided into clusters. Should be taught in conjunction with content standards Will be assessed Apply to multiple content areas Similarities There are 10 Literacy Standards that vary slightly by grade bands. Standards for Mathematical Practice There are 8 Standards for Mathematical Practice Same version used for all grades. Differences SUMMARY Differences
