1 WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 13, 2013 CO: SWD analyzing the figurative language in a text by determining the meaning. LO: SW read and explain key ideas in drama using focus questions.  7 minutes--Bell Work: Turn to page R12 in your book to see the definition for blank verse. Use the information in the definition to complete these sentences on your bell work paper. Copy the 6 sentences into Wednesday’s slot.  Blank verse is poetry written in _______________ iambic pentameter lines. This verse form was widely used by _______________________. The Tragedy of Julius Caesar is written mostly in ____________ verse.  Iambic pentameter means the author has a pattern in writing. Shakespeare uses blank verse to show character rank in the play. The important characters all speak in blank verse.

LO: SW read and explain key ideas in drama using focus questions.  7 minutes --Video Clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7S-kodKA_EUhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7S-kodKA_EU  18 minutes--Focus Questions  You and your elbow partner will continue working on the focus questions.  Use each other to guide your conversation away from, “I don’t get it” to something more productive like, “I think he means this…”  Record your responses on your annotations/notes papers.  Turn in the blue box with your name on it when finished.  10 minutes--Analyzing Figurative Language  Number off 1-9, quickly find members and sit with them  Your group will receive specific lines from the play  Identify the type of figurative language (metaphor, allusion, alliteration, etc.)  Then, EXPLAIN what this figurative language means (like why would Shakespeare compare this to that)

One person writes, one person stands, and one person speaks.  4 minutes--Closure:  White board norms: no destroying someone’s property, only write what is assigned, work with partner only  Stand up when you have finished writing these sentences on the white board.  The figurative language in our selection was_______. It shows _______ in the play.
