Please find your seat, if you forgot where you sit, please come see me! Once in your seat, please begin to work on the warm-up questions, thank you! 1.Amino acids are the building blocks of what macromolecule? Protein 2.An organism’s genetic information is stored in which type of macromolecule? DNA 3.What two types of nucleic acids are found in living cells? DNA and RNA 4.What makes up chromosomes? DNA 5.What does DNA code for? Amino acids

Please get your book and find your seat, if you forgot where you sit, please come see me! Once in your seat, please begin to work on the warm-up questions, thank you! 1.Chromosomes are made up of DNA, what does DNA stand for? Deoxyribonucleic Acid 2.What is a nucleotide? The building blocks of DNA and RNA (Phosphate, sugar, and nitrogen base) 3.What shape is DNA? Double Helix 4.Describe how amino acids, nucleotides, and DNA are related. Nucleotides make up DNA and DNA codes for amino acids.
3
1.Describe the structure of DNA. DNA is made up of nucleotides and its shape is a double helix. 2.What four nitrogen bases make up DNA, and which ones can bond together? Adenine, Thymine, Cytosine, Guanine (A&T, G&C) 3.Complete the new strand of DNA: G C T G A C T A C G A C T G A T It’s Friday! Please get your book and find your seat, if you forgot where you sit, please come see me! Once in your seat, please begin to work on the warm-up questions, thank you!
4
Please come in and sit in your seat! Once in your seat, you will have 3 minutes to finish your Unpacking Your Textbook worksheet. These are due at the beginning of the class! I hope you all had a great weekend!
5
Please come in and sit in your seat! Once in your seat, please answer the following warm up questions: 1.Describe the basic structure of DNA. Double helix, made of nucleotides, used Adenine, Thymine, Cytosine, and Guanine as nitrogen bases. 2.How are DNA and RNA different? Sugar, structure, and the nitrogen bases used. 3.Describe the process transcription. DNA is copied and mRNA is made. 4.Describe the process translation. mRNA is read in codons to produce amino acids and ultimately makes proteins.
6
Please come in and turn in your Unpacking Your Textbook pages up front in the wooden bin. Make sure your name are on them with the correct chapter and section! Once they are turned in, begin working on the warm-up questions: 1.If the DNA strand is A T T G A C, then what will mRNA copy it as? U A A C U G 2.What is the first codon of this sequence? U A A 3.What would the anticodon be? A U U
7
Please come in and sit in your seat. Once in your seat, please start the warm up questions! 1.Describe the process of transcription in 6 words. No more, no less. DNA is used to produce mRNA. 2.Describe the process of translation in 6 words. No more, no less. mRNA is translated to produce proteins. 3.What are the two frame-shift mutations, and how do they differ? Deletion and Insertion; Deletion is when a nitrogen base is deleted, insertion is when an nitrogen base is inserted.
8
1.Describe the type of biotechnology that could be used to make this odd fruit. Recombinant DNA to make a transgenic organism. 2. Describe why transgenic organisms can improve health and production. It helps plants be resistant to disease, helps animal grow larger and faster, and helps scientists with disease or disorders.
9
Please come in and sit at either table! Once you find a seat, please answer the warm-up questions! 1.What was the goal of the human genome project? What were the pros and cons of completing this project? To map and sequence DNA for all genetic traits. Pro: To identify genes that cause disease or disorders. Con: Parents could pick traits of their children. 2.How are DNA fingerprints formed? Explain how or why we use these DNA fingerprints. During gel electrophoresis. To compare DNA for crime or family relation.
10
Please come in and sit in your seat! Once in your seat, please answer the warm-up questions! 1.Reflection on how well you think you did on the quiz yesterday. 2.What concepts were easy for you and what concepts seemed hard? 3.What kind of study methods did you use to study? How long did you study?
11
Please come in and sit in your seat! Once in your seat, please answer the warm-up questions! 1.The sides of a DNA molecule are composed of what? Phosphate and Sugar 2.How are transcription and translation different? Transcription occurs in the nucleus and this is when mRNA is made. Translation occurs in the cytoplasm and this is when mRNA is used to make proteins. 3.All the genetic material of an organism is called its… Genome
12
Please come in and sit in your seat! Once in your seat, please answer the warm-up questions! 1.What are the “rungs” of the DNA ladder are composed of? Nitrogen bases (A, T, C, G) 2.Which type(s) of RNA is (are) involved in protein synthesis? Messenger RNA, Ribosomal RNA, Transfer RNA 3.The type of inheritance when you have White Flowers and Red Flowers and the offspring are Pink is known as… Incomplete Dominance
13
If the mRNA codon was AUG, then what amino acid would that code for? Methionine
