2. Weather Safety b There are many things that we need to think about when the threat of severe weather occurs. b We need to : find a safe location, learn about sires, radio broadcasts, and severe weather watches and warnings.

3. Weather Safety b Here in Michigan we have four very distinct seasons of the year. Each of these seasons has it’s great and not- so-great weather!

4. Weather Safety b In the Spring, Summer, and sometimes into the Fall seasons, we may experience a tornado. If a tornado was approaching, would you know what to do?

5. Weather Safety b If a tornado warning has been issued and you have heard the siren sounding, go to the basement of your home. If there is no basement, find a closet or bathroom on the lowest floor.

6. Weather Safety b Wrap yourself in overcoats or blankets to protect yourself from flying debris.

7. Weather Safety Weather Safety b In schools, hospitals, factories, or out shopping, go to interior rooms and halls on the lowest level. Stay away from glass, crouch down, and cover your head.

8. Weather Safety b If no suitable structure is nearby, lie flat in the nearest ditch or depression and use your hands to cover your head. Do not stay in your car, find suitable shelter.

9. Weather Safety b Do you know what to do if you are caught in the open during a thunderstorm or you feel tingling or your hair standing on end?

10. Weather Safety b When inside: b avoid using the telephone or other electrical appliances b do not take a bath or shower

11. Weather Safety b If outdoors: b go to a safe shelter b get out of the water and find a safe place b seek shelter under brush or small trees b avoid isolated trees or other tall objects, water, fences, and vehicles.

12. Weather Safety b When severe weather threatens, stay indoors, listen to the radio for severe weather watches or warnings and go to a safe location. Be careful and be safe.
