Eurolib plenary meeting2 SHECA Strategic Plan Mission The mission of the Science, Health and Environment Cooperation Area (SHECA), is to advance knowledge within the areas of Science, Health and Environment inside the European Institutions and Agencies. Vision SHECA, a group of Library & Information Services who work within EuroLib, the umbrella organisation representing the libraries of the European institutions and bodies, will become a forum in the European information network, advancing knowledge through our collections, expertise and collaboration, for the benefit of science, health and environment.

Eurolib plenary meeting3 SHECA Strategic Plan Objectives Enhance their cooperation and find solutions to issues of common concern: from practical matters of day-to-day work to increasing the impact of our services within our organisations by reinforcing our managerial skills. Exchange information resources, knowledge, and experience gained by working in an EU organisation Library & Information Service. Decrease the isolation of library & information specialists in our organisation. Have a common place where we can receive answers to our practical questions. Share our documents and collections, experiences, and developing solutions for our day-to-day work.

Eurolib plenary meeting5 Cooperation (1/3) Public procurement Exploring options of common suppliers Listed all the planned call for tenders from the group Launched a joint call for tender for a book supplier Exploring ways of accessing resources of general interest from the Commission Exploring common suppliers for obtaining better services and benefits. Combine subscriptions within Eurolib where possible

Eurolib plenary meeting6 Cooperation (2/3) Increasing number of mutual support activity among the members Have a common place where we can receive answers to our practical questions: Newspapers suppliers The Library in the institutional organigramme Information regarding document suppliers and copyright legislation regarding the documents received We have a common scientific backbone

Eurolib plenary meeting7 Cooperation (3/3) Sharing experiences in practical issues and practices In-house training Promotional activities Development of the professional skills (e.g. systematic reviews) Our work visibility within our organisation (e.g. links with IT department, scientific experts, business intelligence) Document management

Eurolib plenary meeting10 Conclusions Positive synergy with this interinstitutional experience More opportunity to be heard as a group in Eurolib and in our own institutions, than as representatives of our individual libraries Evidenced that there is a latent need among the whole Eurolib members for a closer cooperation regarding practical EU matters Decrease professional isolation Constant and active attitude among the working group members for addressing questions and cooperate

Eurolib plenary meeting11 Eurolib Presidency role and support Small libraries and information centres run by solo librarians are in need of Eurolib support for dealing with EU financial regulations Support to the continuously new libraries which are set up from scratch and immediately join Eurolib. Support the small libraries with the public procurement Become a link and represent the interests of the Eurolib members with other big EU institutions Become within Eurolib a focal contact point in scientific matters for the rest of the Eurolib members

Eurolib plenary meeting12 P roposed follow-up Continuous wg work in the medium and long term 2 meetings already done and 1 planned meeting Need of a common meeting space for discussing our common issues Our wg meetings need to be done in the frame of the Eurolib meetings Our wg is open to become a forum for Eurolib members regarding to general EU practices and scientific advice
