National Grid The network that supplies electricity, from mainly ‘fossil fuel’ sources, to our homes.

Name that stakeholder! Agrees with building settlements in rural areas Disagrees with building settlements in rural areas What might people who agree with developing rural areas say? And who might these people be? Now do the same for people who disagree. THESE ARE YOUR STAKEHOLDERS!

Spot the evidence Maps out! Find the grid ref Say what’s there Explain why this gives an argument for / against development.

What does a 16/16 answer look like? In pairs, highlight and annotate the response to show what level this deserves. Is this a ‘full marks’ answer? Write down 3 things the person could improve on.

What’s the link? Stakeholder – NIMBY New town – bricks Medieval town – improved transport links Roman Road – Tourism Regeneration – housing demand

TO DO AT HOME Annotate ALL resources in your booklet to show: – What point they are making – 3 key facts that you can get from each resource Interpret the map – write a description of the 2 sites, using grid refs as evidence. DECIDE whether they should build a totally new town or just the airport site. LIST the stakeholders who would be for/against each site. PRACTICE the 16 mark question – which option can you write most about?
