Coming Home
2
Jeremy sat atop a large stack of boxes, staring out at all that he had ever known, which in a few minutes would be left only to his memory. Although he was nervous about leaving his home, there was a bright light ahead in the mystery that came with exploring a new place. One that he could not see past, that would only dim once he had become familiar with its existence. He sat atop the boxes contemplating the possibilities that could be hidden by the light, eager to discover them.
3
A faulty step by the carrier of the boxes left Jeremy on the ground. Upon realizing that the entrances into the car were unreachable given his stature, Jeremy decided to wait for somebody to realize that he had fallen and place him back inside the car where he belonged. It was cold on the ground, a feeling that Jeremy wasn't accustomed to and that he was not fond of. It was cold on the ground, a feeling that Jeremy wasn't accustomed to and that he was not fond of.
4
To Jeremy's dismay nobody realized that he had fallen. The car pulled away, carrying with it all that he had ever known. He was stranded, left to fend for himself, cold, and scared. It was then that Jeremy realized the magnitude of the journey he faced… He was going to make it back to his family, back to what he knew, he was going to find his way through the light ahead of him.
5
Jeremy had to start somewhere. In this instance, he was fortunate enough to find a ripped out piece of paper left on the ground. “5525 Mockingbird Lane” the note read. It was an address. Jeremy now knew his destination; the only question was how was he going to get there…
6
He traveled down the driveway and onto the sidewalk, the map of his position and the route to his destination stored in his head. He could picture his family, wondering where he had gone, why he had left them, and if he would ever come back. The white light ahead became less and less blinding with every step he took. This pushed him on when he got tired and, when he wanted to quit, he persisted.
7
A busy street put a halt in Jeremy's journey. He was stuck in the past as cars zoomed by keeping him from his future. Jeremy was terrified but had to make a decision: to conquer his fear and cross the road, or to turn back now and leave behind all that he loved. In realizing this he immediately prepared himself to reach his future.
8
He had just seized his future from the hands of the road when he was faced with another obstacle, a snake guarding the sidewalk, and one that wasn’t content with Jeremy trespassing on his territory. Jeremy foiled together a plan quickly. He drew the snake into the grass, where Jeremy was able to move much more fluidly, and he was able to easily sneak passed.
9
Jeremy trekked for a long time. The sun had begun to set and Jeremy was still unable to see clearly through the light ahead. He counted the addresses, getting closer and closer to the one he was looking for, while all the time repeating to himself “5525 Mockingbird Lane.”
10
Jeremy rounded a corner, now in a full-on sprint, the numbers got closer and closer: 5521, 5522, 5523, 5524… He saw it… the mailbox labeled 5525, the windows of the house illuminated with light, contrasting to the light ahead of Jeremy which slowly dimed. He walked to the front door and knocked three times…
11
The door slowly opened, spreading a blinding beam of light across Jeremy's face. He stood there not knowing what was inside, waiting for the light to dim, allowing him to see his future. And as it did, he heard a small girl’s voice eagerly call out “Jeremy!”
