This did eventually take place to form U.S. Steel, which began in 1901. With the Steel Industry came a diverse culture to Gary Gary’s success was a direct reflection of the Steel Mill Gary had the potential to be the “City of the Century” but economic hard times put an end to that dream During times of economic prosperity, the city prospered. But, during times of economic hardships, the city suffered.
