3. Sojourner Truth was born in Ulster County, New York in Hurley City in 1797. She was born a slave in Hardenbergh Plantation.

4. Her parents names were Mau-Mau Bett and Baumfree. She was originally named Isabella. Sojourner had 12 brothers and sisters! They were separated from each other, eventually.

5. Lovin’ The vi la loca! She fell in love in 1815 with another slave named Robert. But they were forbidden to see each other. One they were caught together. As a result, Robert was beaten and sent away, and Sojourner Truth ended up marrying a slave named Thomas. They had 4 kids: Peter, James, Elizabeth, and Sophia.

6. She was constantly traded! She only knew Dutch language and her master knew only English, so he beat Sojourner with many things daily! Then she was sold again to Charles Hardenbergh, who died in 1808. She spent this phase of her life picking cotton, washing clothes and spinning wool at night.

7. Through her life Sojourner preached about the abolition of slavery, helped improve the lives of slaves and helped them find homes. This impacted slaves by making them happy.

8. Sojourner Truth had a sharp sense of humor. She hated slavery because it tore families apart! She was tall, strong and had a deep voice.

9. Sojourner Truth sadly died in 1883.
