4 Infants (1-3 yrs old) DO NOT FOLLOW HEALTHY EATING ADVICE !!! Eat little and often Energy Fat Sugar Salt Dietary fibre, Protein, Calcium Vitamins and Minerals

5 Primary School Children CAN NOW FOLLOW HEALTHY EATING GUIDELINES Eating habits develop (good and bad – can lead to future health problems). Healthy eating + Activity Nutrients: Protein, CHO, Calcium, Iron

11 Convalescents THE BALANCE OF GOOD HEALTH DOES NOT APPLY. Malnutrition exist in hospitals. Increase requirements for: Energy, Protein, Calcium, Iron, VitC, D and A to help repair body tissues.

14 EAR Estimated Average Requirement An estimate of the amount of energy in particular required by individuals

15 LNRI RNI – Reference Nutrient Intakes Lower Reference Nutrient Intakes RNI’s are the amount of protein, vitamins and minerals required by individuals. The ‘Lower’ refers to the lowest level which is still enough.
