2 Institute of Chemical Engineering page 2 Achema 2012 Thermal Process Engineering  Actual technologies for measuring the contamination in Cleaning in Place (CIP) waste water are slow (~10min)  The aim is to find a new technology for online verification  Implementing an IR technology (~1 measurement every 1-30s)  Realised within the project PATOV, financed by the 7th Framework Program of the EU Project PATOV

3 Institute of Chemical Engineering page 3 Achema 2012 Thermal Process Engineering  Experimental CIP plant installed at Vienna University of Technology  Plant is able to reproduce a CIP procedure  Results achieved with the IR equipment are validated with offline TOC (total organic carbon) measurements  PATOV is placed close to the CIP plant to measure the contamination in the CIP process water Project PATOV

6 Institute of Chemical Engineering page 6 Achema 2012 Thermal Process Engineering Actual Status of the Project  At the moment it is possible to make a measurement every second  Down to a concentration of 20ppm  Retention time from the CIP plant to the PATOV unit was brought down to 15s  Only one contaminant can be measured at the moment, the calibration for other contaminants, like proteins is planned Project PATOV
