1 Math example generalization #2
Mr. Anderson rented a Hummer for $ per week. He was given 250 free miles for a week and had to pay .10 cents for each extra mile. When Mr. Anderson returned the Hummer, he paid an additional $23.50 for extra mileage. How much did the rented Hummer cost Mr. Anderson? Mr. Anderson rented a Hummer for $ per week. 2 Rule Base Strategy Example
Life was difficult for early Puritans, but children still found time for leisure activities. Because of the Puritans’ beliefs, children were not allowed to have many toys. Instead, they played games and read religious books. Puritan children had limited leisure activities. Because of the Puritan’s religious beliefs, children were only allowed to play games and read the bible. This shows a specific content example of the text before summarizing and what it might look like after summarizing.

4 Topic-Restriction Illustration Frame
What is the meaning of trade? ILLUSTRATION RESTRICTION: How can a short term positive trade balance negatively affect long term trade in developing countries? RESTRICTION: How does the definition of trade differ from different countries? Draw picture

5 Definition Frame Sample
Attributes: Closed Plane figure More than 2 straight lines Two dimensional Made of line segments Describe in own words A mathematical shape that is closed plane figure bounded by 3 or more line segments POLYGON Examples/Illustrations Pentagon Hexagon Square Trapezoid rhombus Non-examples/Illustrations: Circle Cone cylinder A polygon is a closed plane figure with straight sides. Ex: Rhombus Non- Ex: Cylinder

6 Problem Solution Frame Example
Area/Perimeter of a pool: I want to make a rectangular pool with an area of 36 sq. ft. What are the possible dimensions of the pool? Correct dimensions: Which of the dimensions you listed would give you the greatest perimeter? What is the problem? What is the possible solution? Are there any other solutions? Which solution has the best chance of succeeding?

7 RECIPROCAL TEACHING 1. Roger Williams moved from England to Massachusetts Bay Colony. He believed in the separation of church and state. He set up a government based upon religious freedoms. It was later known as the Rhode Island Colony. 2.Why did he move from Massachusetts? 3. What did he accomplish? 4. Will there be any other leaders that will follow in his footsteps? Give an example of what this might look like in a classroom of your grade level/content area.

8 Recommendations for Classroom Practice on Note Taking
Teach Multiple Formats Teacher prepared notes Combination notes Informational Outline Webbing Teaching multiple ways to take notes provides opportunities for students to select which note-taking format they prefer. Here are some examples.

9 Combination Notes other A number of factors contributes to disease.
Pathogens pathogens Family history Inherited genetic mutations Metabolic defects Other risk factors DISEASE Lifestyle Smoking Lack of exercise drinking Family history lifestyle This frame can be used in math. For example give students notes on the left for prime and composite numbers. On the right hand side the students create a factor tree. In the summary the students, in their own words, tell what a prime and composite number is. Other risk factors Hazardous job conditions (mining) Medical treatments (radiation) A number of factors contributes to disease.
