2 Outline Introduction Plan Implementation Conclusion Credits Geometry with Movie Maker In the elementary, middle and high school math methods courses, candidates create PC based Windows Movie Maker (WMM) projects based on geometric concepts. This presentation provides an overview of and a module for the creation of the projects.

4 What is Movie Maker? “Windows Movie Maker is a video editing software that is included with Microsoft Windows XP and Windows Me. It was originally created for Windows Me as a response to Apple Computer's popular iMovie program, and the current 2.1 version is included in Windows XP SP2.” http://www.answers.com/topic/windows-movie-maker A Microsoft Windows Movie Maker (or Apple iMovie) product (movie file) can be used as an effective tool for delivery of instruction.

5 Why am I standing here not using iMovie and a MAC? “The inevitable comparison of Movie Maker to iMovie.” Both offer the same basic type of finished product. Both take about the same degree of effort. The process is essentially the same on both platforms. The major difference comes down to accessibility of the application resource both at home and school. Currently, teachers and students simply have greater access to PCs. (The United States market share for Apple desktops has been below 3%, and Apple portables has hovered around 5%, for several years.) 6 The creation of Slopy. “Creating Slopy….” The purpose of this activity is to create a visual moving image to display a math concept. While you may use this as part of a teaching demonstration, your students could also create images using paper, markers and clay. More advanced students could also learn how to create the moving image using Movie Maker or iMovie. The creation of images supports INTASC Principle 2: “the teacher understands how children learn and develop, and can provide learning opportunities that support their intellectual, social and personal development. (In this activity, students can create these images in small groups (social) or individually. The products could represent how they view the world of mathematics (personal development). And, the content is supporting the intellectual development of the children.

15 The Process To create the image. Go to Windows Moviemaker Open a New Project On the left hand side it says “Import Pictures” Using your floppy disk, follow the links to import each of your pictures. Next drag the pictures onto the “Show Timeline” which is at the bottom. Each picture will last about 5 seconds. If you need more time, you can copy and paste the picture like you would in a word document. Under “tools” there are places where you can add transitions and titles. This is where you can put in your words. When you finish, save your project using one of these approaches: To save your movie, on the Task Pane, click on Save to Computer. Once you have saved it to the computer, you may then save it to your website by opening the Front Page and drag it into Frontpage. File to Save Movie File to My computer at Next Browse to the desktop. Good luck!
