Yes, we may arrange special, on-campus parking for a prospect during an official visit. (13.6.6.3). Not permissible during an unofficial campus visit, however.

Unofficial 300 Q.May the events staff permit prospects on unofficial visits to be on the sideline during an FB or BB intrasquad Scrimmage as long as the scrimmage takes place on-campus? A. No, an on-campus intrasquad scrimmage that is open to the general public is considered a campus athletic event, even if no admission is charged. Therefore, prospects on both official and unofficial visits must be in the general seating area of the facility during the competition. (13.7)

Materials 300 Q.If a local club team misinforms a coach of a prospect’s age and the sport sends recruiting materials to a high school sophomore because the coach thought the prospect was a junior, is this a violation? A. Yes, this is a violation, regardless of whether or not the coach believed the prospect was of a permissible age to receive the recruiting materials. The responsibility is on the college coach to make sure prospect information is correct, not on the high school or club coaches to provide correct information. (13.4.1)

Contracts 400 Q.If a non-coaching staff member agrees to speak at a Kiwanis banquet, not knowing that a prospective student-athlete will be in attendance, is this considered a violation even if the staff member does not make a recruiting presentation and has no direct contact with the prospective student-athlete or his/her parents? A. No, it is not considered a violation if a staff member serves as a speaker at a banquet at which prospects are in attendance, unless it occurs during a dead period. (13.02.4.4)

Officials 400 Q.May we make a sign to place in the sport team’s office stating “The University of Colorado welcomes prospective student-athletes to campus”? A. No, this would be considered personalization for recruiting visits. It would be ok to make a more general sign not directed at prospects (e.g., “Welcome to CU Basketball” or “CU-Boulder Welcomes All Visitors”).

Materials 400 Q.The marketing/promotions office is asked to send a prospect the website address for the team’s booster club in an effort to show the prospect the level of support the team receives from its fans. Is this permissible? A. Yes, you may send the website address to prospects, but you should not encourage prospects to join the club, nor may the booster itself send anything to the prospect. (13.4.1)

Contracts 500 Q.Is it permissible for an athletics staff member (e.g. Jashon, Tuck, Nolan, Jody Bailey, Ann Strother) who works with a specific sport to attend a high school state tournament contest off-campus? A. Yes, this is permissible as long as the staff member is not directed to attend the contest by a coach, does not report back to the coach, and has no contact with prospects or their parents at the competition. NOTE: Athletics staff who work with a specific sport may not attend HS banquets.

Officials 500 Q.Is it permissible for a team doctor to conduct a medical exam during an official or unofficial visit? A. Yes, provided no staff member other than the trainer is present. In addition, the exam must not test the prospect’s athletic ability. Note that the medical exam must be done by a team physician and not by an athletic trainer alone.

Unofficial 500 Q.During the unofficial visit, if a prospect plans to stay in a hotel at their own expense, may we arrange their reservation? A. No. We must also ensure that the prospect is not receiving the CU staff rate.

Materials 500 Q.If CU is hosting an NCAA championship event, is it permissible for the marketing/promotions office to produce a poster promoting the championship and send it to the high school coach of a prospective student-athlete? A. Yes, if CU is hosting an NCAA championship, it is permissible to produce a poster promoting the championship and send it to a high-school coach and/or the educational institution as long as the poster is not sent directly to a prospect. (13.4.4.3)
