VESL Immersion Project (VIP) Funded by SF Department of Human Services (HSA) grant Community based organization Arriba Juntos manages grant CCSF provides VESL based on guaranteed attendance funding Clients are CalWORKS and PAES recipients Arriba Juntos is invoiced for enrollment below 25 per class

VESL Immersion Project (VIP) Job Placements for Fiscal 2012 33 TOTAL JOB PLACEMENTS The VESL Immersion Program includes students in CCSF Non-Credit ESL Levels 1-4. The above students were typically placed after one or more semesters in this program. Approximately 60 students participate in the program each semester. The VESL classes along with on-the-job training prepare the students for entry-level positions in a variety of fields.

Pre-I-BEST: a noncredit to credit pathway ESL 7/8 Intensive: accelerated noncredit course with added focus on health careers HLTH 59: orientation to Community Health Worker certificate program (1 unit) Students are assisted with 1) enrolling in a credit course, 2) homework tasks, 3) application to CHW program HLTH 60 and 62, first semester of 17 unit certificate; I-BEST instructor available to both ESL and native speaker students I-BEST = Integrated Basic Education and Skills Training

Pre-I-BEST: funding sources ESL 7/8 Intensive: 10 hours per week; noncredit apportionment based on enrollment; 25- students break even HLTH 59, 60, 62: credit apportionment based on enrollment; mix of ESL and non-ESL students Extra assistance: provided by ESL instructor as part of 7/8 Intensive Grant funded: I-BEST instructor at 20% load; teacher meeting time – one hour weekly, two instructors = 35 non-instructional hours
