2 Biography Born on June 7, 1877 Widnes, Lancashire, England

3 Biography He went to Liverpool Institute.
Then entered University College, Liverpool, in 1894

4 Fast Facts Full Name: Charles Glover Barkla
Invented: Homogeneous radiations. Charles studied under J.J. Thomson.

5 Facts He then transferred to King’s College.
He started a important research on x-rays. 1913 he was professor of natural philosophy. At Edinburgh University

6 Awards In 1916 he was awarded the Hughes Medal.
Appointed Bakerian Lecturer in 1916. Won the Physics Nobel Prize in 1917.

7 Awards Continued… Royal Society in 1912 Royal Society of Edinburgh
He studied at Oliver Lodge Graduating with First Class Honours in Physics.

8 Inventions 1903 showed scattered x-rays depends on molecular weight.
X-rays pass a material, deflected by atomic electrons. 1904 showed polarization of x-rays.

X-ray fluorescence Primary x-rays absorbed, excited atoms emit secondary x-rays. X-rays are a form of electromagnetic radiation.
