Tips Take care of business and keep your marks up! Taking your math and sciences will keep your options open both in Canada and the States Take the PSAT in October in your grade 11 year. Take the SAT in your grade 11 that way if you need to you can re-take it in grade 12 if needed to improve your score.

SAT Information As a college prospect it is an absolute must to write the SAT test in order to be eligible to play college athletics. The SAT Reasoning Test measures your critical thinking skills that are needed for academic success in college. The SAT assesses your ability to analyze and solve problems. These are skills you learned in school that you will need in order to be successful in college. The SAT is generally taken by high school juniors and seniors. Each section of the SAT test is scored on a scale of 200-800, with two writing sub scores for multiple-choice and the essay. The SAT is administered five times a year in Canada. The sections included in the SAT are as follows: critical reading, mathematics, and a writing section. ACT Information Used more in the Midwestern, Rocky Mountain and Southern United States, while the SAT is more popular on the East and West coasts. Geared toward what you have studied in your formal education. Four areas are scored individually on a scale of -36 and a composite score is provided which is the whole number average of the four scores. Four parts of the test: ▫English ▫Mathematics ▫Reading ▫Science ▫Writing (optional)

NCAA Clearing House Information Known as: NCAA initial Eligibility Center As a prospective student-athlete at a Division I or II university (NCAA has info on div 3 as well), you have certain responsibilities you must attend to before you are able to participate. You have to register and be cleared with the NCAA Clearinghouse before you can compete in college sports. Among the topics that the NCAA Initial Eligibility Center deals with are of course eligibility, recruiting processes and allowances, amateur/professional issues, other rules and compliance issues and much more. Cover Letter for Coaches (email) 1.Paragraph 1: Introduce Yourself and your intentions 1.Who, What, Where, When 2.Paragraph 2: Athletic Abilities 1.3-4 athletic accomplishments and impressive stats from most recent season. Honours? Highlights? Special Teams and Awards? 3.Paragraph 3: Personal 1.Why do you enjoy competing in your sport? Write one inspiring sentence from your heart. 4.Paragraph 4: Currently 1.What are you doing? Who are you playing for? Camps? Lessons? Academics? Goals? 5.Paragraph 5: How 1.Benefit team, what you will bring to the program with your abilities, skills, characters, work ethic, etc.

HINTS: look up roster, have questions ready to ask the coach in the email!

Other Tips Keep track of who you contact. ▫School, name, email, phone, position, date you emailed them, etc. Be honest and upfront. Ask how about they go about their recruiting process and if there are any opportunities in the near future. Two way street (communication and information)

Programs: Don’t forget that it is about being a student athlete. (5 years of eligibility, lightened course load while participating depending on program) Make a list of which schools you are interested in? Make a list of programs you are interested in?
