1 Year 7 Unit 2 Assessment /Classwork: A Living and Dying Graph Name: __________________________ Class ___________ Date issued ____________ My last assessment grade was The grade I am aiming for this time is A howling gale woke ex-accountant Angus Kelly from a deep sleep. It was still the dark outside, the clock said it was 02.00. Peering out into the night through a rain – lashed window, he sensed something was wrong. Struggling into his clothes, Angus stumbled downstairs and stepped into the hallway. He felt his slippers fill up with icy cold water as he moved towards to front door. As he opened the front door he could just make out through the roar of the wind a voice. The voice was coming from a loud – hailer. There was a blue flish - flash of light coming from somewhere near the voice. ‘Evacuate, evacuate!’ It was saying. ‘Is this dream? ‘ He thought to himself. Pausing only to pull on his boots and waterproof jacket that were by the door, Angus began to wade knee-deep through the stinking, filthy water. His beautiful front garden was nowhere to be seen. He headed for the brightly coloured rescue boat at the end of the street. He then became aware of a different kind of sound behind him. Walking quickly now, he turned to look into the inky darkness. He saw nothing. The strange roar was growing louder by the second until..................... But this is not the whole story: Did Angus live or die? What was that noise? You may find out these answers to these questions later. Task 1 – Use only pictures to make a mind map of the story in this box.

4 How to score well Level 2 (D) - You can describe geographical patterns but may find it difficult, so........ You correctly complete either the bars or line (Tasks 2 + 3) You put 3 out of 6 numbers onto the hydrograph correctly (Task 4) You give 1 simple reason for placing 1 number on the graph where you have (Task 5) Level 3 (C) – You can recognise and describe simple geographical patterns, so....... You correctly complete both the bars and the line on the hydrograph (Tasks 2 + 3) You put all 6 numbers onto the hydrograph correctly (Task 4) You give 1 simple reason for placing the number where you did (Task 5) You write a label A and put it on the graph. The letter and explanation makes sense (Task 6) Level 4 (B) – all Level 3 plus You explain clearly why you placed 1 number where you did (Task 5) You start to explain the cartoon correctly - a link between humans and the environment Level 5 (A) - all Level 4 plus You start to explain the links in the cartoon between floods and economic problems You draw a cartoon that starts to make the reader think about how humans can affect the environment Level 6 (A*) - all Level 4 plus...You explain interactions between physical and human processes well You explain clearly the links in the cartoon between floods and economic and social problems You draw an inventive cartoon which makes the reader think about how humans affect the environment Teachers remarksWhat I did wellWhat I need to work on for next time Overall level Task 8: (continued) Explain the cartoon ______________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
