WHAT IS SOLDERING? Soldering is the process of joining metal leads, creating a mechanical and electrical bond. www.engineersportal.in
4
WHAT IS REQUIRED? The tools needed for the soldering process: Soldering iron Solder Sponge Flux Solder wick www.engineersportal.in
5
The main soldering tool Used to melt solder www.engineersportal.in
6
Metal “glue” used to join together metal parts Contains flux Made of Tin and Copper, sometimes Lead www.engineersportal.in
7
Used to clean off soldering iron tip Can be made of various materials Should be used every time before soldering a joint www.engineersportal.in
8
Makes solder melt easier Always use extra flux for rework www.engineersportal.in
9
Use to remove solder Careful, it gets really hot! www.engineersportal.in
10
-Turn on the soldering iron -Set the temperature control on the soldering iron to a temperature less than 700 °F and greater than 450 °F. - As a general rule use a temperature in the range between 550 and 650 degrees Fahrenheit. www.engineersportal.in
11
-Tin the tip of the soldering iron by melting an inch or so of solder on the tip. -The iron will now look shiny on the tip. -Then wipe any excess solder on the golden sponge. -Now place the iron back into the holder. Tinning your soldering iron in this manner will aid in future soldering. www.engineersportal.in

Caution: - Soldering is dangerous if not respected - Be mindful of where you are and where the soldering iron is - Eyes and liquid solder www.engineersportal.in
