2 What is ISO TC204 ISO TC204 covers a whole range of ITS- Intelligent Transport System Intelligent transportation systems, or ITS, encompass a broad range of wireless and wireline communications-based information, control and electronics technologies. When integrated into the transportation system infrastructure, and in vehicles themselves, these technologies help monitor and manage traffic flow, reduce congestion, provide alternate routes to travelers, enhance productivity, and save lives, time and money.
3
3 SCOPE of WG7 WG7.3 is drafting working group of WG7 Definition of standards in the areas of Fleet Management and Commercial Freight Operations systems to improve the Management, Safety and Security of these fleets and facilitate the interaction between the vehicles/freight/operators and the local, national and international authorities within the modal, intermodal and multimodal environments.

4 Comments resolutions from TBG3 UN/CEFACT Forum (TBG3) in its meeting of September 26-30, 2005 in Lyon, France chaired by Mr Dominique Vankemmel (France) passed a resolution that reads as follows: TBG3 resolves to endorse the new version published 15 July 2005 of the ISO standard “ Intelligent Transport Systems — Data dictionary and message set to facilitate the movement of freight and its intermodal transfer — Road transport information exchanges for supply chain freight time-sensitive delivery (Road- Air Freight-Road)” which takes into account previous comments from TBG3. Similarly, TBG3 accepts the revised Scope and Introduction dated May 2005 of the ISO draft standard DIS 17687 “Data Dictionary and Message sets for Electronic Identification and Monitoring of Hazardous Materials/Dangerous goods Transportation”, as it refers to the TDED ISO 7372, EDIFACT Directories published by UN/CEFACT and the ebXML framework and Core Components. 7 WG7.2 ISO/DIS 24533 Intelligent Transport Systems – Data Dictionary and Message Set for Monitoring of Freight and its Intermodal Transfer – Road Transport Information Exchanges This specifies the data concepts draft document applicable to the tracking of freight and its intermodal transfer. These data concepts include data elements and messages that comprise information exchanges at road transport information exchange points along the chain of participants responsible for the delivery of goods from the point of origin through to final recipient. This International Standard includes information items necessary to address the security aspects of the freight movement in modal (road), multimodal, and intermodal transactions.

9 Background and Scope of WG7.3 ISO/TC204WG7 has been discussing about improving cargo visibility exploiting Intelligent transport technology for commercial freight management. AS for international standard for cargo information in transit, ISO/TC122/104JWG has developed RFID application standards that facilitate cargo transparency in transit with items/products, packaging and transport equipment. ISO/TC104SC4 has developed three types of container tagging standards with ID tag, SCM tag and electronic seal. Besides Bar codes technology, RFID will be added into door to door transport with enhancing cargo movement transparency in the near future Developing use cases of good combination of existing cargo identifiers and data carriers, RFIDs and On Board Unit as an application profile that enable cargo movement transparency for improvement a chain of custody and simplifying physical inspection process in road transport related area.
